We are going to be having a missions trip in our own back yard. Today a young man in church told us about a church that is being built in Mason City. This is an old church that has been decaying for some time and has been up for sale for a while now. This happens to be going on right in his own neighborhood. A neighborhood that really could use it from my understanding. The person who is building this church runs a prison ministry in our area which our church just happens to support. His vision for this particular church is for a children's/youth ministry.
In this neighborhood there are many bad things going on. The kids are running the streets and they need a Christian influence in a big way. There are a couple boys at a young age looking at burglary charges, vandalism and assault charges to name a few. Children are living in abusive homes ranging from physical to verbal abuse. There are party houses that have young children running in and out at all hours of the day. There is one young man looking at being tried as an adult for murder as well. This all is viewed from one guys front yard. Who knows what is going on around the corner.
Open Bible Church will be gathering their troops for a special deconstruction of this church later this month. I think this will be a great surprise for the man starting this church. Not to mention for this community. This is a God thing going on here and we all know He is going to do great things through this ministry.
